Nonlinear surrogate<br \/>\n      techniques are applied to quantify the degree of phase<br \/>\n      synchronization in simulated and observed data of fluid and plasma<br \/>\n      turbulence. We adopt the complex Morlet wavelet to characterize<br \/>\n      the amplitude dynamics by computing the Local Intermittency<br \/>\n      Measure, and to characterize the phase dynamics by computing a<br \/>\n      phase coherence index. Our techniques are able to detect and<br \/>\n      measure coherent structures in magnetic field turbulence in<br \/>\n      unshocked and shocked solar wind, as well as in atmospheric<br \/>\n      turbulence above and within the Amazon forest canopy.<br \/>\n      Intermittent mean-field dynamo is investigated using numerical<br \/>\n      modeling of magnetohydrodynamic turbulence driven by helical<br \/>\n      forcing.
