\nExtraction of coherent structures using wavelets:
\napplication to turbulent flows in fluids and plasmas<\/p>\n

We will discuss the pertinence of the wavelet representation
\nto study turbulence. We will then present a wavelet-based
\nalgorithm to extract coherent structures out of turbulent
\nflows. We will demonstrate it on a 1D turbulent signal
\nmeasured in the tokamak Tore Supra in Cadarache, then on 2D
\nand 3D turbulent flows computed by direct numerical
\nsimulation. We will briefly present the CVS (Coherent Vortex
\nSimulation) method which computes the time evolution of
\nturbulent flows in an orthogonal wavelet basis, adapted at
\neach time step to resolve all nonlinear interactions
\nwhatever their scale.<\/p>\n
This work has been done in collaboration with Kai Schneider, CMI, Universite de
\nProvence, Marseille, and our PhD students.<\/p>\n
