Models of the oceanic mixed layer usually<br \/>\n_\/ ignore the presence of wind waves at the air-sea interface, and assumed<br \/>\n_\/ they obey the law of the wall, in which the turbulence is equilibrated<br \/>\n_\/ between shear production and dissipation. However, wind waves are at least<br \/>\n_\/ important for two reasons. First, wave breaking transfers wave energy into<br \/>\n_\/ turbulence and is thus an energy source for boundary layer turbulence.<br \/>\n_\/ Second, direct interactions between Stokes drift that is resulted from<br \/>\n_\/ wind waves and wind-driven current can produce Langmuir circulation,<br \/>\n_\/ which has the capability to transport suspended matter vertically downward<br \/>\n_\/ deep into the oceanic mixed layer and modifying the circulation and<br \/>\n_\/ turbulence characteristics in the upper ocean layer.<br \/>\n_\/ I will first introduce the wind wave models briefly, and suggest that<br \/>\n_\/ wind wave forecast has been well developed compared to the other ocean<br \/>\n_\/ environmental factor predictions. Then, based on a second order turbulent<br \/>\n_\/ closure scheme, Mellor-Yamada model, the influence of wind waves on<br \/>\n_\/ oceanic mixed layer is investigated from three aspects including air-sea<br \/>\n_\/ flux algorithms, turbulence induced by wave breaking, and Langmuir<br \/>\n_\/ circulation, all of them depend on the development degree<br \/>\n_\/ of wind waves.
